99 corolla acceleration problems

When you accelerate in my 99 corolla it sometimes drops speed before it accelerates especially at about 63mph. it has about 83k on it. you could say it even stalls for a sec and drops speed then accelerates. any help would be very appreciated. it seems like something with the fuel system maybe a fuel pump we just replaced the starter about 2k miles ago thanks for your time

Re: 99 corolla acceleration problems

kind of expensive, but it sounds to me like it is your throttle position sensor. if i were you i would go ahead and replace it before it goes out. just a guess from what you have told me though.

Re: 99 corolla acceleration problems

Might be the Injector & sensor need check up & service ....(including feul filter)

I use soft99 or STP product "octane booster & cleaner ..." (Always works for me )

63 mph is pretty fast for the Corolla....It's probibly protesting.

All kidding aside, It's a pot. I would first clean the TPS before spending the money to replace it. And use a cleaner that is safe for plastic components, or you'll damage it.

Re: 99 corolla acceleration problems

im not sure of the exact location on your model but if you look at the throttle body, (thats the flapper that opens and closes to change engine speed) it should be on the opposite side of the throttle cable. remove the cover to it and spray it out with ELECTRONIC PARTS CLEANER. dont use brake clean or carb cleaner. this can damage it. if that doesnt fix it then you should probably replace it
