Battery Light
When I accelerate my battery light sometimes comes on. Is this a bad battery or a bad alternator? 99 Taurus here. I changed the battery in May '04 when it refused to start. Cleared up the problem then. Light has been showing up on and off for months now.

If it's RPM related, I'm tempted to say alternator. Although you would think it would charge better at high RPMs if it was starting to go south.
That is weird. Denis |

I spend a lot of time driving in the country between work and family. A lot of that time I am driving at speeds around 60 mph. When I speed up to pass someone or when I come across a long flat stretch and hit the gas the light will show up. It doesn't stay on for long though and it goes off as soon as I let off the gas. The light almost blinks when I do that.

Re: Battery Light
I have a '97 SHO and was having the same problem with the battery light coming on when I hit high RPM's. It always went off when the car shifted gears, until a couple weeks ago. I accelerated sort of hard and the battery light came on, and stayed on. When I was on my way to the shop to get it checked out, the car died. Turned out to be the alternator. Had it replaced and that fixed the problem. So I would have that checked out before you end up on the side of the road like I did.
By the way, if you do have to replace the alternator, find somebody other than Ford to do it, they'll charge you an arm and a leg. |
