Servive light

Hopefully a simple one.
I bought my '97 van used and don't have it's owners manual.
I don't see where the "Service engine soon" light should be.
Would anyone tell me where abouts on the instrument panel it will be?
And any tricks for replacing it would also be helpful.
Thanks

I thought it was an easy problem. Maybe I can shine a flashlight around the instrument cluster and see if I can find where it might be.
Thanks

Re: Servive light

Are you asking about the service soon or the check engine PCM light?
Are you sure it has a seperate service soon.
What lights come on for a bulb check when you turn the key to on?
What engine and trans? What type of dash do you have on it?

Re: Servive light

thanks MT
I'm not sure what it is called, since I've never seen it, but usually "service engine soon" should light up with the ignition turned on. It never has, so I don't know where to look. All the other standard lights are there. But the instrument cluster, being of dark plastic, I don't see where the light should be.
The van is a stock '97, 4.3 litre, 4 speed auto.

Re: Servive light

It should have a check eng or service engine light when key is first turned on.
If not check the bulb, may be burntout or someone punched it out.
I wouold go back to who sold it to you and ask them what is what on it.

Re: Servive light

One of the contractors I deal with has an Astro. I had a look. In the lower right of the instrument cluster is a symbol of an engine. This must be the service light, as it goes out when the engine is started. I'll look at mine tonight. I hope it's not an LED.
