2000 GT Problems

my parents have a 2000 GT 3.8L, that has some problems. it was time for a plug change, and my father changed out the plugs and wires. just put autolite plugs back into it, and factory wires. nothing special. he is not into all that...after the plugs were changed, he noticed a surge when the car reached about 2k RPM....just a constant surge, and if you give the car a bit more pedal, it fixes itself. and then calms down. it does it most when you are exiting a corner, or up a hill. and, as well as when taking off from a dead stop. it doesn't do this however, when changing gears from a dead stop. just once it gets into it's final gear. he has had it checked several times, changed all the injectors, changed the solenoid purge valve, as well and new air cleaner...tried to get him to go with an aftermarket CAI, but no....still, it surges. the check engie light was on, and just this past time, when the purge valve was replaced, the mechanic corrected it, and turned the light off. i replaced all the vaccuum lines, and still it is doing this. he thinks he might have cracked one of the plugs, the rear one, when he was replacing them. just need something to go on. if anyone can help, please give me your comments. willing to try anything.....can't fuck it up any worse...

Re: 2000 GT Problems

First of all please refrain from using the "F" word in the open forums. Second, have your father replace the spark plug wires and clean the EGR valve passageways and valve. This should correct the problem you are experiencing. Since you say that the problem didn't start until after the plugs were changed you may also want to remove and check the gap on the plugs to make certain they are gapped properly.

Re: 2000 GT Problems

didn't mean to put that in there. had to re-read my post, just to find what you meant...again, sorry about that. it has new wires on it, direct factory replacements, and the plugs were checked to see if they are properly gapped. what is the proper gap on those? i will check the egr, and we will try that....thanx for the help, though
