got a 86 4 eye'd mustang an have the 4:10's in the rear an a 4 speed tranny, was thinkin not bad for the track but do you think i should get a T-5 trans so i will have overdrive an diffrent gear ratios or you think i'll get better performance from the 4 speed?

Re: 4 or 5 speed

4.10s with a 1:1 ratio, you might want to buy stockin Mobile if the car is going to see the street.

Re: 4 or 5 speed

It depends on the engine for what gears you run as well.

Is the engine stock or mostly stock with some bolt-ons? Definately go with the T-5. If the engine is stock or mostly stock and you're mostly driving it on the weekends and at the track...I know this will make Sky mad,but oh well, I would go with 4.10's. At 65mph your rpm's only go up around 200rpm's compared to 3.73's. The 3.73's are better for driving around and you still get your neck snapped when you take off but it doesn't sound like it's a daily driver, so go with the 4.10's. Sky is right about your engine setup. Tell us about the engine and tire and wheel size and we all can give you more advice. Oh yeah, do you only plan on weekend driving and drag racing 1/8 or 1/4 mile or do you plan on road course racing or all of the above? That will make a difference also. I don't know why but this is the only thing Sky and I kind of disagree on. Oh well, he does know his stuff though, we just but heads on this one.

its a 1/4 mile car no circuit racin in a mustang here...engine is going through antoher over haul, not sure what motor is gonna be most likly a 347 with aluminum heads, still tryin to figure out the cam i want, custom headers, edelbrock manifold with a air gap 200 shot of nitrous and a worked demon carb seem to be whats avaible to me right now, so i'll start there...

Re: 4 or 5 speed

347 w/ N2O, do not go 4.10s. That engine will have plenty of torque, with 4.10 you will be fighting to get the power to the ground

giddyup,

We have never disagreed, because I am always right j/k

when it comes down to it ima change the rear to a narrowed ford 9 inch with 3:73 gears but that'll take time n money right now this motor is being built on a budget to race in Feburary against anither car being built on a budget{83 El Camino}

No Sky, you just think you're always right.
Yeah, if you're running nitrous, go with the 3.73's. I do agree w/ Sky on that one, but if you don't run nitrous go 4.10's all day! No Sky, I'm not saying you're right, I'm just saying I agree.
By the way Bigwill, what is that little guy holding the sign and what does it mean?

Re: 4 or 5 speed

I'm just wondering why anyone would waste the time to install a T-5 to go to the dragstrip, and then just have to remove it again because they're weak... I guess if it was free and you have a lot of time on your hands. Unless it was a G-force t-5...
