Re: change crank pulley

Not really just take your time and make sure you have the proper belt available.

Re: Re: change crank pulley

In addition to GTPDad's suggestion, the belt will need to be shorter and it's recommended to use a GoodYear Gatorback serpentine drive belt.

The balancer/pulley bolt is either 15 or 18mm. Be sure to use a 6 point socket and 1/2 " drive to loosen it. Also you'll need a harmonic balancer puller. Upon completion, the balancer bolt should be torqued to 110 ft-lbs.

Also if the new UD pulley does not come wth a 24X crank sensor ring, you will need to take it off the stock one and transfer it to new UD pulley.

I did my son's 3.4L Alero about 6 months ago and it can be an easy job, if you properly prepare, have the right tools and do the job right. Good luck!

Re: change crank pulley

I don't know why you would but a propane torch should give you enough heat if you must. It should be a direct bolt on. You may have to tap it with a hammer to get the old on off but the new one should go right on.
