Malibu coolant (Dexcool)

My daughter is having probllems with her '99 Malibu. The o-ring on the coolant fill cap failed and since replacing the thing, every couple of weeks, blows coolant out the overflow pipe. I don't trust the Dexcool and wonder if it's OK to flush it all out and change to the good old green stuff.....

Re: Malibu coolant (Dexcool)

this is a common problem, the cap is still leaking I work with a guy who had the same problem and he ended up buying a new cap assy and the problem went away.
The cap is the pressure relief.
I think he only paid ten bucks for a new one

I had to buy a new cap as well because if I screwed it on I could never get it easily off. Replace the cap. BUT #1 - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE (No, I am not James Brown) flush your system. Do not rely on that 5 year crap. The Dexcool should be replaced every 2-3 years.

Thanks garync1. I'd seen the Prestone adds and had decided to make the switch. That red stuff is no good....ozzie2

Ok Ok it could be green or red or orange but their is something that the 3.1L has some reaction with the green one it cause something in the engine to rust or something else like the heads well, anyways I go with the orange later I find out why you shouldn't put red or green antifrezse
