Autometer Tach problem

Hey everyone....I got a problem. I just got an Autometer 5 inch tach from a friend of mine and we connected it all up right ( green wire to blue wire...ground to ground and so forth) But for some reason the tach says my car is idling at 2 grand....and I can hit what would be about 14 grand just reving it and not hitting redline. I have a 93 Civic DX and I know it doesn`t idle at 2 grand....let alone hit 14 grand. Anybody know what might be wrong ? Thanks for your help.

Did you set it to work on a 4cyl engine?

There should be switch or a pill or something in back of it.

you have to snip some wires there should be 3 loops you will need to snip 2 off them. they are specific so go to autometers site and see what color you need to cut. trust me i know, i have one and i had to do it.

As far as i can tell there`s only four wires coming out of the back= green, red, white, and black.

there should be atleast 2 loops of wire too, mine had one orange and a brown(not sure about that). On mine I had to snip both of them,on a 5 you snip one and on an 8 you do not snip at all.
