Side view mirror removal

I need help on removing side view mirror (just the glass) in order to look at a short caused by water on the side indicator. Is it any easy job, and do I need any special tool.

Any help is appreciated.

I need some help with this too. My motor on the passenger side is slow and there is a bit of shake when driving. I'd like to lube and tighten if possible but can't figure out how to get the mirror off?

According to the Ford manual, it is like this....

1. Push in the upper edge of the mirror glass to its maximum travel and pull outward until the mirror glass is released.


But when I try I'm either prying on the motor arm or having to pry on the glass. And I hear a cracking sound. Anyone ever performed this successfully without cracking the glass?
