SERP belt issue

Hey All:

Just wondering if anyone has seen this. I have a 92 Rodeo, lots of miles. Recently replaced the idler pully and belt. Also recently had the water pump pulley shimed for anlinement issues.

Now, I can't get a weeks worth of driving before the belt moves towards the back of the Air conditioner pulley, where the last grove is up on the lip of the pulley.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!!
-paul

Must be a GM 3.1L V6? There still has to be a pulley/alignment issue somewhere. If you pull the belt & give all the pullies you can a spin, do they all spin straight? No wobble? I'd look into that a/c compressor pulley if that's the one to first spit the belt.

G/luck

Re: SERP belt issue

We checked all the pulleys, there is no wobble. I talked to my brother who used to run a repair shop. HE said to remove the shims from the water pump. There is one interesting clue. The polished part of the pulley. We moved the belt away from that. So we are going to start there.

Re: SERP belt issue

Just wanted to update.

My bother and a GM tech (his neigbor) took a look at the engine. It seems that the alternator is way out of alignment. Dont know why, know one was working on the area of the car, ever.

If someone sees this, the alternator is pivoted up and away, like someone pulled up under the hub 45 degrees angle and move it back. The backets look fine, not bent. Does anyone, know how to adjust an alternator on a 92 Rodeo 3.1 v6 engine?

Thanks

Re: SERP belt issue

In case anyone cares.. The issue turned out to be that the idler pulley which was replaced for belt noises, was installed backwards. On the 92 3.1 v6 engines, the replacement idlers do not have a cover on the front, so its easy to make a mistake. If anyone that has a 92 3.1 v6 and has the original still installed, I wonder if you might take a picture of the engine and post it.

-thanks

Good info Paul. We don't see too much on the GM 3.1L equipped rodeos. New info is always welcome- don't feel left-out!
