Apline Type R box

Im looking to get a Alpine Type R 12", getting it for 105$. from what ive read 2Cuft ported @ 32hz would be very very good for a SQL setup. i listen to Rap and techno mainly. im going to be running 5-600WRMS, havent decided on my amp yet. how much port area should i use, im thinking ~30SQIN maybe ~45sqin.

any input is apreciated.

to work at best buy (atleast here in NY), you have to be 18+. period. To work in installation, you need to ether be certified to work on cars (MECP), or in school majoring in automotive mechanics/engineering. I tried for that job, too, and again, wasn't certified. To work in Sales, though, i guess all you'd need is a general background with mobile audio.

Re: Apline Type R box

for sales you need background in mobile audio, if they didnt love me so much in computer rapair id work in mobile audio, but im disgustingly good at repairing computers, i still help out the mobile sales guys though, out of the 6 sales people only one of them has ever done anything beyond upgrading there stock speakers.

on topic- im hopefully getting that type R this friday, i know its rated @ 500WRMS, is this for real or can i safely run more wattage to it daily? im going to but it in a ~2cuft w/ 40sqin @ 32hz, does this sound decent? or should i go a little bit bigger in volume?

Ran whatever you can. WHen it starts to sound bad/smell funny/looks funny, then turn down the volume knob. It's that easy.

Re: Apline Type R box

yea i actually talked to some of the people at the best buy sales and finally found one who seemed to have a pretty good background and was talking to him about Alpine. but he said he owned two 12in type-rs and he was very satisfied with em, and that he never really had to worry about damaging them. i dont remember what setup he had though. youd probably be safe running about 750watts daily though if your pushing them, but like gsteg said, if you set your gains right you should be fine.

but definitly let me know how the sub sounds in that box, i think im going to start with just a sealed box for 2 of them but i might end up porting it for some lower frequencies.

Re: Apline Type R box

ive built a couple different boxes for my Rs.. 2-2.25 sounds pretty good. you can tune wherever you want.. but for rap and techno id go a little closer to liek 35-36 hz...

i have one @ 33 hz and one @ about 40 hz.. and i wouldnt go any higher than 40.. btu i have it in my car right now and it still does damn well for music. (still decent LFE, just is peaky now) and it sounds WAY louder than the 33 box.

and you can send it up to 1000 watts or more if youre careful about it.. but 800 sounds liek a safe number to stick with without much worry.. mine are prolly gettin 6 or 700 a piece and sound liek they can take a lot more.
