Automatic shift cable

Hello, I have a 1995 sl2. Does anyone know which way the shift cable goes in? Does the bushing w/ clip go on the pass side or the drivers side? Eveytime I try to put the "u" clip in and move the shift lever, the whole bushing moves with it. The cable itself was good when I pulled it out so.......... Please help! Thanks, Garry
