My 96 Z-24 is too slow.
It's all stock and an automatic and I am sick of seeing ricers fly past me with 4 cylinders as big as mine. I want serious horsepower. I heard that domestic autos aren't upradeable anywhere near foreigns. Any suggestions?
(I used the search option and didn't find any threads that addressed my needs instantly) I'm sick of f__king ricers flying by me! I need some help. |

Re: My 96 Z-24 is too slow.
seriouse hp? turbo or s/c or if you have money to spend on it.. swap it out with a 3.8 s/c out of a GTP. im thinking about doing that.. and then them 4 bangers would not know what hit them.

Re: My 96 Z-24 is too slow.
You'll have to shell out for "serious hp" but a z24 is in my opinion, the best Cavalier to mod. If you really want power, I would recommend building your internals and turboing your car. If you just wanted to run 5-7 psi, you could get away with stock internals, but if you want to run more, you will need a built engine. The turbo kit and supporting mods will cost without internals will cost around $3000, and then you really get deep when you go into the engine. -Jayson- has a s/c z24 at 7 psi if I remember right and he has an estimated 200hp and runs a 14.7 1/4 mile. That said, you will only keep up with those "ricers" if you do the 7 psi setup. I wouldnt swap in 3.8 s/c. The engine and transmission wouldnt be cheap, it would be hard to get in there and it only has what like 240 hp? The 3.8 weighs lots more than the 2.4 and you will need to beef up your suspension and braking to handle it. My own personal opinion is sell the Cavy and get a turbo'd car, but if you want to keep the Cavy I would build the internals and turbo the bitch.

Make sure you keep the 3.8 and the 3800 different in your mind as they're different motors.

Well it is a bit older. And the odometer is at 103K so I would not want to shell out 3 stacks for a little 50 hp upgrade. I guess all is lost then. I've heard of chips/etc. that may ruin your engine and give you a little boost but am not sure their quality. If I switched to a manual, would I have more options of upgrading?

Re: My 96 Z-24 is too slow.
auto or manual wont change the output of the engine..only will give you control of the output that it gives..like shifting..thats about it

Re: My 96 Z-24 is too slow.
Now now now. Just because it is a Cavy doesn't make it slow. I have been beat a few times by Cavaliers that are Naturally Aspirated wilst driving my "ricer" or I mean my 1996 del Sol VTEC B16a2.
But guy, use the scroll thing on your mouse, you dont even have to search.
