Question need torque

alright guys i kinda have a dilema here. i finally put in the 88 hf tranny in my 89 civic. every thing works great. but i figured this would happen. it dropped the rpms down too low in fifth gear and it is sucking way to much fuel just to maintain speed. i end up just running it in 4th gear. so my question is what should i do to lower my torque curve down to about 2000 rpm like the d15b6. i dont really want to have to put the d15b6 head on because then i will have to put different pistons in. i need some help guys thanx.

Re: need torque

Underdrive pulleys may help... maybe a lightweight flywheel. A turbo would definitely add torque but that would kill mpg.

Re: need torque

if you want lower torque then increase your stroke or just raise the power band you have now.

try intake, header, exhaust. also if your going for gas mileage why do you need more torque, that shows that you want more power to go faster which mean more gas and that will just kill your gas mileage.

also the motor doesnt suck fuel, the injectors give it fuel, so if you think your running too rich look at your fpr or your injectors

civic killer i know it doesn't make much sense that i need more torque. it isn't that i nessicarily need more torques i just need to get the power band down around 2000rpm. i cant really explain what it feels like for the motor to be pulling the hf tranny. the best i can explain it is i am pulling a trailer. the only way to for the motor to pull this transmission is to lower my torque curve. what i think i am going to have to do is use the d15b6 piston and head to lower the torque curve. i would also like to take a d16a6 crank and put it in the motor because if you look at the specs it has a longer stroke. next question i have is where can i pick up a d16a6? any one have one for cheap

Re: need torque

It's the whole bottom end.....pistons, rods, piston rings, etc etc. It's all still together.
