more power

i have a Monte Carlo 95 LS with a 3.1 L V6 and i want to get more acceleration out of it. I have been thinkin of puttin in a new engine, would something like a 3800 motor from a 98 z34 fit in it? My friend has been sayin put a better exaust system on it, would that make a good difference at all? Does ne body have ne suggestions on what i can do to make it faster.

Re: more power

If your looking to swap the engine, you'll also have to swap the transmission, PCM and wiring harness. A good intake kit and exhaust will allow the engine to operate better, and a combo of both may add 20-30 horses. Also, if your engine seems sluggish, maybe it's time for a tune up, or even a rebuild. I own a '96 Monte w/ a bone-stock 3.1L also, with a 2 1/2" flowmaster exhaust and it's fairly zippy, although the transmission seems to be geared to high. Another option would be changing the drive chain gears and the differential for a possible gearing of 3.73:1, which would increase your acceleration, but decrease fuel mileage.
