What are the best ways to beef up the sunfire 03-05?

Like do they make a turbo or supercharger that will fit on the 2.2L ecotec? And if they do, where can you get it / ow much does it cost?

And if they donw, what other things can you do to beef it up?

Oh and this would be on a the 4 speed auto. Can it withstand the extra power ok, or do you need to also upgrade the trans when you upgrade the engine?

You can get turbo and supercharger kits and I've heard the ecotec takes really well to boost, but you will have to lay down pretty good for them. Supercharging or turboing your car will be around or a little more the $3000 for the S/C or turbo and supporting mods at around 5-7 psi. More boost than that and you will have to build your internals. You can do the usual intake, header, and exhaust, but you wont get too much power from that (probably 10-15 hp).

Re: What are the best ways to beef up the 03-05?

yea, i got an 03 cavy and there really arent any good ways to beef up an ecotec........yet. As gm claims, the ecotec will be the small block of the future............. i choose not to believe it since its been out for 3 years and havent seen many parts for it at all. to get 200+ hp, it will at least cost u 2k. wat ur funds and available money are as of now i dunno, but i would just sell my cavy, and find a good used v-tec prelude or 3k gt for about 7 grand, but then again thats just me. Oh and about the tranny. the stock 4-speed should be able to handle about 250hp, any more than that is pushing it................good luck. lemme know wat u decide to do

Well I actually dont have the sunfire yet, but it looks appealing. The bad crash tests scare me but.... whatever. I cant make up my mind if I just want to get a 03 Vibe when It would be in my price range, or if I should get an Aztek or Sunfire. I like the Aztek out of all of them the most but... I wouldnt really be able to make it a fast car lol. At least not with a small amount of money.

i wouldnt get any of them. the aztec looks HORRIBLE, i flip off every person i see driving one. Pontiac only sold like 20,000 nationwide, which is why it only lasted like 3 fucking years................. as for the vibe or sunfire, i dont care, i would still go for a more sporty car, but hey, thats just me. if ur going the pontiac way, go for a g6 coupe, THOSE ARE FAST AS HELL!!! just my 2 cents........

Well... I shouldnt have said "fast". Really I just want something peppy. I like cars with small engines (Vibe and sunfire) because of the noise they make when you floor it heh heh. Im not really into that earth shaking V8 kind of sound.

Also, I hear turbos and superchargers make a cool sound... So I really want a car that can take one.

And to the person that said the Aztek was ugly. For 1.) How it looks is a matter of opinion. IMO the Aztek the most sexy looking SUV ever. And for 2.) You are a freaking moron to flip people off who drive them. If they bought it they like it so be quiet. I hate the way a lot of Japanese cars look, but you dont see me fliping people off who drive them.

Oh and about the G6.... Yah the G6 coupe is the Sex. But it starts out at ~$20,000. It would be a long time before I coul afford one of those.

Well like it was stated earlier u can put a use forced induction I.E. turbo or S/C and run it between 5-7PSI. Or u can buy a turbo or supercharged car. Let us know what u decide.

Re: What are the best ways to beef up the 03-05?

ehhh wrong, ecotec is a great engine for boost. If you know what your doing you can run 15 PSI on a stock engine. There are people on jbody.org running mid 12's with the stock engine.

Ecotec loves boost, expect to spend around 3000 grand and if you know what your doing, should be running 13's.

Re: What are the best ways to beef up the 03-05?

there is NO way a stock 03-05 ecotec could run even 10+ boost w/ stock internals. my friend has a 00 integra v-tec, he put a turbo on it running 9lbs and he blew a rod and the head gasket right off..........dont try to tell me all this shit about how an ecotec can run 12 lbs of boost. plus like i said earlier, if u feel like spending 3k on a turbo or s/c and at least 6k on the car, why not find a 00 camaro ss or z28 that can run that stock???? i wouldnt even risk putting 8 on my car. and yes about the aztec thing, it is a matter of opinion, my opinion being, I HATE THEM. and by fast for a g6, i mean a hella lot faster than my car. with just a few mods im sure the g6 could hit high 12's and low 13's. I just dont think a cavalier is the way to go for performance. I just use mine to get from point a to point b, but for those of u who feel like dropping 2-4k in a grocery getter, by all means, go for it. all i am saying is u can get a faster car for less money...............................

Yeah sounds like a lot of boost for a stock NA engine. As for faster cars for less money, you could get a DSM (90-99 Eclipse, Talon, or Laser). If you get a manual turbo first gen (90-94) you can hit around 275-300 hp with about $2000 and if I remember right those mods can take you into the 12's if you are a good driver. Thats what my friend has and thats what I am getting.

Re: What are the best ways to beef up the 03-05?

no internals, check these guys out on jbody.org

http://www.j-body.org/members/suncavi/cars/1/
http://www.j-body.org/members/hypsy1/cars/2/
http://www.j-body.org/members/djclueless/cars/2/

check out those 3 registries, all running 12's, all on boost, all on 12+ lbs of boost. None of them have any kind of internal mods done to there cars.

Vtecs for ricers. That engine isnt built for boost, the ecotec was.

Re: What are the best ways to beef up the 03-05?

ok...the first one i can see being true...the second one is running max 7.9 PSI if you read closely and hes running a 10 pound shot of nitrous while he runs the 1/4, the third isnt an ecotec and hes got alot of shit done to his car that makes up for less psi turbo to make the same 13 times in the 1/4
all you did was find the 1st guy running over 10 psi and then found 2 others with the same times and said they had over 10 psi

you must be retarded and not able to read.

From the third guys registry, very top. And yes it is an ecotec, because you are illiterate, you didnt see the bottom where he says he did an engine swap.

Started: 3/21/05
Drove: 3/26/05
First Breath Of Boost: 4/16/05
Best Engine Award: 4/30/05 (6th Annual FL J Show)
Best 1/4 Time 7 Psi: 13.9@105 5/22/05
Best 1/4 Time 15 Psi: [email protected] 5/22/05

and to further prove that you have no idea about cars, this from the 2nd guys registry

Engine:

Prothane Polyurathane Lower Motor Mount
RKS Upper Motor Mount
Prothane Polyurathane Transmission Mounts
Minor Accent Painting
Hahn Racecraft Stage 2 Turbo Kit (222 horsepower and 224 pound/feet of torque at an average of 6.5PSI and a maximum of 7.9PSI on that run)
3 inch custom made exhaust with a Flowmaster 40 series muffler
Nitrous Express CO2 N-Tercooler Sprayer with 10 pound tank
Turbonetics VBC

thats not a nitrous kit. . .its a nitrous intercooler. It sprays nitrous over the intercooler to increase its cooling effect. No nitrous goes into the engine. ALso you called it a 10lb shot, wtf does that mean? Do you even know how to run nitrous? The point of that one was not to show the super high PSI, but to show how fast the engine can be with stock internals.

So please, next time you open your mouth. Try and sound like you know what your talking about.
