Can someone explain the extended warranty on 99 6.5 diesel

injector pumps. My 99 K3500 is having problems with smoking, belching, and hard start. I am on travelling on the job and my wife is having problems. The last time she drove it it took about 8 miles on the highway before it corrected itself. Once it cleared up it ran great. I replaced the fuel filter and am concerned whether the lift pump or the injector pump is going bad. I am leaning to the injector pump since it does run when smoking so bad, it does not seem to be a fuel delivery problem...

Normally, on a Factory extended warranty, it's the same as the original factory warranty, except you pay a deductible (Like $100.00, unless the repair would've cost less than that) but usually on diesels it's an extended powertrain warranty. (Engine, tranny, etc) that covers the powertrain after the original 36/36 has expired, you just pay a deductible. I don't know what the mileage cutoff is for GM diesels. I know Ford is 100,000 miles. Usually, what one does, the rest do, but you'll have to check your owners manual or call a dealer to be sure.

I received a letter from GM a couple of years ago about a extension on the pump warranty. It was extended to 11 years and 115000 miles if I recall, I am not home so do not have the letter in front of me. The truck has 65000 miles on it. I am hoping a tech will see this and explain if the lift pump is also covered or just the pump assembly itself.
There are no codes being set that turn on the engine light.

Either way you'd have to go to Chevrolet to have it done, you may as well go there and have them run your VIN # and see what's covered.

I dont believe it to be injectors unless they are leaking down while sitting. I do know this, before I would pay $8600 for new injectors I would trade it in on a *gasp* FORD.

The Ford diesels have had 10 times more problems than the Duramax, and we're talking some major repairs too. Tons of complaints and recalls.

A '99 would not be a Duramax. 8600 for Duramax injectors yes, but not for a 6.5.

the injector pump on a 6.5 has an extanded warranty from GM on it 11 years 120,000 miles if it is checked by a dealer and found to be the pump it will be totally free as long as you are under the mileage and time . but the dealer has to diag. it and do the pump replacement. they also have to check fuel spefic gravity and a list of other things than call GM for approval to do the pump .

Thumbs up It is at the dealer now, my thoughts.

Well, I took it to my local dealer this morning and they seemed kind of skeptical about the injection pump being the problem. I got a call this afternoon and they confirmed that the injector pump went tits up and GM is sending a replacement under warranty. It will be ready in a couple of days.
I have taken some heat from my friends about how bad the 6.5 injector problem is and maybe some of it is justified, even I made a tongue in cheek joke about buying a Ford. My personal opinion is that anything can go bad, even new parts. Since GM is taking care of the problem it doesn't seem to be as serious as I envisioned. GM is standing behind its product and that satisfies me totally. It is a little inconvenient but nothing in life is perfect.
This is what will bring me back to the dealer to purchase my next truck and it probably will be another diesel.
Now, the next question, I have looked at some aftermarket heat sinks for the injector control module. Once the truck is returned to me I want to move the module and add the heat sink. WILL THIS VOID MY WARRANTY???? If so I will wait until the warranty expires and add the heat sink.

Well, whatever they called them back in 99, I'm sure they're 100 times more relaible than the Fords.
