2002 Prerunner 2wd -> 4wd?

I love my 2002 Tacoma Prerunner but am relocating from California to Montana. Its paid off and I only have 35k mi on it. I don't want to trade it in but would rather take a 4x4 with me. I have no clue what I would need to do to make this happen and I don't want to waste my money by going to a dealer. What do I need to buy? I can work on finding someone reliable for the install.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You should probably check out www.tacomaterritory.com if you havn't already. I sure wouldn't want to tackle that task, but I know people have done it. You could always sell it privately and buy a nice used 4x4 for a similar price. Lots of used Tacos out there.

By the way Montana is awesome! Where are you moving to and who do you work for? If you don't mind me asking.

agree with glockrock. buy another truck, or....hehe buy a better suspension that would be able to get you out of most situations with 33 inch tires. do you already have a locker, was it standard on prerunners or an option?
