Strange noise when coasting...

My '99 Escort ZX2 is making a strange noise. When at low speeds, and coasting, there is a noise/vibration that comes from the front wheel axle area. It's almost like you can feel the turning of the axle. Is this a transmission problem?

this would be your ball joint is loose. wich is from havin a loose tie rod
you can easily replace yourself, tierod and balljoint will run you bout
$80, jack up yer car shake each tire and find wich one is loose.
then go get the part n replace, this was my problem. before you buy the parts. when yer car is jacked up make sure your struts are tightly bolted to your mounts. loose struts will also make a noise but usually all the time and not just when coasting.
