Re: Making your own seatbelts..?
For the belt or the buckles?
For the belt, narrow ribbon works well, as does masking tape painted or even coffee filter material. For the buckles, drink cans can be cut and fashioned to make the buckle.

Re: Making your own seatbelts..?
Thanks FreakRay, I think I saw this in the "How To's" but I can't remember if it mentioned what one can use for the actual materials.
I might just dare this on my S2000.

I just skipped the paper belts for a surgical tape called Leukosilk that you can buy at Apoteket (the pharmacy in Sweden).
I just brush on a very dry layer of what ever colour I like it to be and then cut it as wide as it needs to be. Oh! BTW, I tape it up on a clean piece of glass before painting and cutting. Take a look at the pic and you get the idea, buckles is from MCG but you can like Freakray mentioned make your own ones easily from drink cans or the likes. Niclas

Sorry, but I just have to ask how you guys make the buckles from drink-cans? I've tried cutting thin metal and there's just no way I can cut something that small? It never looks good. Do you guys have a secret? Tips you can share? Pics? Thanks Murray |

Re: Making your own seatbelts..?
I used back-to-back Tamiya masking tape cut to size on my mini cooper. Coloured it with a felt tip marker. HTH

Thanks for the tip, Niclas!
I used some kind of other tape, called Leukoplast, on my now pending build... Works very well also, pretty realistic with some Fujimi Enthusiast buckles. I agree with MurrayKish though; how could you make someting this tiny out of a drink can?

Don’t ask how they make seat belt buckles out of old coke cans… I can hardly bend a pre made PE buckle onto shape, so I’ve no chance of making my own. My scratch building is purely scratch my head and wonder how to build it, the rest is more like paint by numbers for me.
Masking tape and felt tip pen, with PE buckles is perhaps the easy way to do seatbelts, or buy something pre made.. Scale Race cars were recommended to me today in a post I made about eduard PE belts.. |

As fotopic doesn't allow direct linking you will have to click the links below to see two things I made from thick aluminium foil.
The belt buckles is a bit fiddly but by no way impossible to make. The tools I use is a needle, a drill bit in my pinwise, tweezers, a diamond knife sharpener, CA-glue and a fresh blade in the knife. Then it's just to get to work. It's a bit hard to explain in words, I'll try to put up a tutorial instead. Be patient and It'll come to a site near you Niclas Home made belts and a windshield wiper |
