V6 Oil Pan Removal
1989 Camry - my oil pan is leaking. I have reviewed the Haynes Repair Manual and looked at the oil pan and other components nearby the oil pan and realize you must unbolt and remove the lower front suspension crossmember, center engine mounting member and the front engine mount and bracket. Why do you have to remove the exhaust pipe from the manifold? It appears to be unnecessary. Does it have to be removed and why? I dislike taking exhaust bolts off, since they often break and need to be drilled out. If I must remove the exhaust pipe what problems will I experience? Any advice will be appreciated!

Yes, you have to disconnect the ex pipe from the manufold, or the oil pan won't have enough space to come off. You can get the oil pan loose and lower it, but as soon as it hit the ex pipe, it got stuck there.
My suggestion to the ex bolts is, replace them with stainless steel bolts and nuts so they will never get rusted ever. It's better that you replace the gasket also. Good luck, it's a fun job, especially if the car is not on a lift. |
