ok. My alternator has gone to crap. I'm about to need a new battery, and I'm replacing the alt tomorrow. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to make it a somewhat easier task? Besides take it to a mechaninc. I don't want to pay someone for something I can do. Anyway, I just remember that it took to people 2 hours just to change the alt belt and I'm not looking forward to this. It's such a confined space. Let me know if you have any tricks for it.

its really not bad at all. as long as you dont mind getting a little dirty and having some minor scratches on your hands and arms. its a very straight forward task. i would give you a pointer but i cant remember how to do it, it just comes to me. if you dont feel up to it, pick up a haynes manual or check out the library.

Re: Replacing alternator and dreading it
not really any tricks that i can think of other than remember to disc your batter...once you get in there and actually get to taking it off its isnt that bad...ive done it my self 4 times and ive got it down to about a 15 min job...
