Tamiya gloss paints

Hi,

I just bought myself a harder and steenbeck evolution airbrush and have trued to airbrush some amiya acrylics because i heard so much good about them. But i just can't make the gloss colours glossy.. they always dry matt. i used Isopropanol to thin the paint and i've tryed spraying the paint un thinned unto a ratio to 50% pain50% alcohol.. and still it dries matt. Does anybody has an ID of what I'm doeing wrong? I used a tamiya primer and my airbrush pressure is 2bar... that's what the discribtion of my airbrush mentioned for the ideale presure..

thx in advance.

Re: Tamiya gloss paints

If it's dull, it's usually because you thin too much the paint. (or because you have a rough finish)

2 bar is near 30psi right ?

if so, it's a bit too much for my taste. I work between 7 and 20PSI

Re: Tamiya gloss paints

but if I thin it less... it becomes verry rough... i've heard about some people who spray tamiya paints unthinned!! but then it's like sandpaper-rough

Re: Tamiya gloss paints

How far from the surface are you spraying?

What colors are you spraying?

Re: Tamiya gloss paints

Sounds like you're not spraying constently, and that you're spraying from too far from the surface.

Orange peel could also indicate the paints too thick.

Have you tried thinning the paint with Tamiya acrylic thinner?

Re: Tamiya gloss paints

Yes, especially water, you should never thin acrylics with water.

Re: Tamiya gloss paints

ok then.. tomorrow I will look for the tamiya tinner.. I hope it's the solution because i really like the acrylics for the easy clean up.. just soapwater and alcohol... easy an non-toxic... BTW is there a Taimya laquer thinner?

Re: Tamiya gloss paints

Tamiya only makes lacquers in spray cans so they don't produce a thinner, they do produce a thinner for their acrylic and enamel ranges though.

Re: Tamiya gloss paints
