Strange looking Spark Plugs
Hi Folks,
My new to me 2002 24 valve SES 36K, stumbles very bad when putting the peddle to the metal. I took out the spark plugs and saw that the spark area of the plug, the bottom part of the plug came to a *point* and not flat and round like all other plugs I have seen?? Is this normal for this engine and plug?? Thanks for any help and advise. Rob Roy |

Re: Strange looking Spark Plugs
You might have paltinum plugs. They are *pointier* than non-platinum plugs. Most newer cars have plats as the std plug. I have to guess that the electrode was still there. I say that 'cause I had plugs lose the electrode.

As a previous poster mentioned, the appearance of your plugs sounds normal for platinum plugs. -Rod |

Re: Strange looking Spark Plugs
Could be plug wires.....

Re: Strange looking Spark Plugs
I doubt it's the wires. I would try a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel treatment, and change the air and fuel filter. Maybe take a look at the throttle plate and see how dirty that is. If it looks really gunky, spray a little Seafoam Deep Creep (or Amsoil Power Foam or your favorite intake cleaner) in there. I hose down the throttle plates in both my '99 Taurus 24v and '01 Windstar whenever I replace the air filter.
