Angry 01 Ranger weird starting problems!

Ok well so far I changed plugs, wires, fuel filter. I ran hit octane threw it and did noting. I have check the starter, and alternator. I even got a new battery. Most of the time it starts good when its cold but when its hot it takes awhile like 3-4 sec to turn over. If i drive it and stop it and leave it for a few mins. it will start right up! Its just when it sit's for a period of time. My next step is to check the fuel pressure. Someone told me that the fuel pump is bleeding fuel back into the tank. Well if any one can help it would be great!

P.S. 2000Mudder you got any input!

Re: 01 Ranger weird starting problems!

what do you mean turns over adter 3-4 sec. ? you mean slowly turns over ?... I had a problem once. turned out to be bad corrosion on terminals as well as rust on ground strap connections. I would check fuel pressure also just as PM check.

a bad fuel pump is common on rangers.check your static fuel pressure with key on engine off, if the fuel pressure drops suddenly then a bad fuel pump or regulator is the problem.although its unclear from your description of your exact prblem. plugs, wires, and filter leads me to believe you have a "crank no start" or "long crank and then start" condition. and the fact that you mention starter, battery, and alternator, leads me to believe you have a "no crank no start" condition.so which is it?

I'm like the others who are replying. First it sounds like it doesn't run well. The reason is because you've changed the plugs, wires and filter. Next it sounds like it turns over slowly because of checking the battery, starter and alternator. And then it's on to checking the fuel pressure which has nothing to do with a slowly turning over engine (if that's the case). The two scenarios are not related and I'm not sure what your symptons are. Could you be a little clearer on your symptons?

Ok well I guess what im saying is the it runs great but its when it sit's for awhile I go to start it and its like takes a few sec. to start the motor is turning just not wanting to starting. When I drive it does fine I will turn it off and I will let it sit for less then a hour. It starts fine does not take any time for it to start right up. When it sit's takes like 3-4 sec. for the motor to start so I have to hold the key to run position for that time. I heard that there is no fuel pressure reg., that they said there is a fuel dampner type regulator thats on the fuel rail. I hope this is a better description. I guess in short it seems like a fuel problem, cuz the truck runs fine its that takes couple of sec. to start the motor.

Re: 01 Ranger weird starting problems!

ok here's one. take your right foot "with engine running" and MASH the gas pedal to the floor and see the response. I mean mash it. another thing next time cycle your ignition on-off about 4 times then start it up. let us know on the response.

Sounds like you need to check your fuel pressure/volume and see if it holds pressure with engine off. Maybe a leaky injector causing the few seconds to start or the check valve in fuel pump not holding as you mentioned in your first post. The fuel pressure/volume test will let you know if your fuel system is up to par.
