timing 42 degrees retarded exhaust gets red hot

have 96 blazer with 130k starts fine and runs great till it gets warm then it is real sluggish when you step on the gas (no power) then i noticed
the longer it runs the exhaust pipe starts glowin red on passenger side right out of the manifold took to a garage put tester on it showin retarded 42 degrees please cause of problem and solution if anyone has any idea's thank you

Are you sure it's retarded 42 degrees? That's awfully late. Did you/they reset the initial timing back to specification?

so, the header is glowing red?

OR

the exhaust pipe BEFORE the catalytic converter is glowing red?

yes? or, is it the exhaust pipes AFTER the catalytic converter glowing red?

ever had a new fuel filter? new catalytic converter? ANY CODES? have you done any tune-up items lately?

has the distributor been out, changed, or messed-with lately /

Most common reason for a glowing red exaust is a blocked cat... The ecm may be leaning out the engine too much because of that blockage...
