i have a 92 skylark with the 3300 my service engine soon light is on and my speedometer is not operating, also idles very high, was told it might be the vehicle speed sensor, replaced it but problem remains. I also took it to autozone to have the code read but they couldnt get a read off the car something to the effect the scanner wasnt getting anything from the car at all. ANY IDEAS??

On a 92, you should be able to get the codes by grounding the computer (incase their is a problem with your ECM talking to Diag Equip).
If you ground out two terminals in the Diag. Harness, the Check Engine light will start to flash. It'll flash a code 12... 3 times (flashes once.. pauses.. flashes twice.. then pauses again.. that's a 12). After the 3rd 12.. it should start flashing other numbers.. write them down and you can look them up on the internet or if you have a Haynes manuel they'll be in there. If you've tried this already and still nothing.. then I'd say you have a bad ECM or wireing harness.... Since the Speedo and Odo get their pulses from the ECM, if that's F'd then all sorts of crazy things can happen. Also.. have your Alt. checked... when mine went out, the first thing I noticed was the dash panel acting funky. |
