Car pulls, weird problem

Hi, all,

My car originally pulls to the left. I balanced the tire and switched the front 2 wheels. Then the car began to pull to the right. I switched the wheels back, it pulls to left again.

Can someone give me an idea what could be wrong. It doesn't look like it's the alignment since the direction it pulls changed with the tire.

Thanks.

Are the tires out of balance?

could also be that the tires have worn in a certain direction, if it always pulled to the left the tires may have worn out on one side more than the other, switching the tires would switch the side that is worn more.

Could be a bad tire. I was once told by a Uniroyal plant manager that sometimes the individual wires that make up the steel belts will cross over. If the point of crossing isn't found and gets made into a tire, the tire will always pull.

Re: Car pulls, weird problem

Steel belts can slip or become distorted, resulting in a tire that wants to track off-center.

Thing is, this usually happens because of excessive toe or camber misalignment, so there may be a problem even if new tires seem to correct it.

switch the tires from front to rear and see what happens. You can not visually see if the alignment off, were talking 0.10's - 0.01's degrees the eye can not see that. I would have to agree with the above posts it sounds like a tire issue.

Forgot to mention, if the tires are directional, you can't swap side to side. Even non-directional it is usually considered better to not change the direction of rotation.

Do like bull said, go front to rear and see what you get.

Thumbs up Re: Car pulls, weird problem

Thanks for all your input. I had identified one of the front tires with uneven wear and switched to rear.

Right now the car drives straight without any pull.

uneven wear=tire pressure to high, or to low
