my man is an installer. i asked him. he said there is a big chance that deck has a security code (that way if it was ever stolen out of the car it would be no good to theif). if that is the case, go do to or call your local acuara with the serial number and they should be able to help.

if that doesn't work....let me know and we'll get it figured out

good luck with dealer

My friend was replacing all his fuses in his 94 integra which still had the stock tape deck, and when he put it back in, he got the error code. He called the dealer with the serial and they wanted $90 to give him the code.

After that run around my friend basically said forget that and bought himself a pioneer cd deck

FUCK ACURA

i went to acura and told me the same thing. the previous owner has the code and without it, the deck is useless.

its pretty much useless to me since my friend has no idea what the code is, so im stuck with my good ol alpine tape deck...

fuck acura anyways, they thought i stole the deck as soon as i asked about the codes.

that really sucks that your deck was stolen dude. just so you know, people can steal the deck out of your car in about 6 seconds. I jimmy rigged mine by getting behind it and wrapping a towel around it and duct taping the towel around the deck, so you can't pull it out. I also take the faceplate EVERYWHERE with me.

i was thinking about rigging my future deck so it cant be stolen (or at least really hard)

but does wrapping the deck with a towel and duct tape make it hot?

actually on mine it doesn't make it much warmer. Just remember, the interior of your car can get up to like 140 degrees on a really hot day, so the deck is designed to function in environments that hot, so it's ok. Plus if you are using an external amp rather than the deck's amp, then it produces a LOT less heat, because all it has to do is basically spin the CD and send the signal to the external amps.

there is a spot where you can put a screw in the back of decks. get yourself some plumber's tape (or a backstrap of some sort) use the hole in the back of the deck to screw on the backstrap and then mount that sh*t to your car. there should be enough room for you to get your arm back there.

i'm not saying the towel and duck tape are bad (i've never done it) but from an installer's point of view....that doesn't seem like a good idea.

the trick is to slow the theif down. the more time to takes to yank your stereo the better chances you have of them just leaving it. it's not worth it (to them) to have to sit there and disconnect things....too many chances of being caught.

i'm not 100% sure (i'll have to ask) but i think there is a spot by the face plate in the front where you can also put in another screw. i know they do it at the shop on the display. i'm just not sure if it's safe to do in your car. i'll ask.

I think the screws you are talking about are there to keep the faceplate on permanently so it isn't taken at a display setup. At least that's how it is on my sony. I think it varies from brand to brand.

I have a Kenwood 9017 and the faceplate flips around when I turn off the car so it doesn't really look like I have a cd player. I could also take off the faceplate, but I just got an alarm because I was worried about someone stealing my subs and amp. You can see them right there in the hatch, so if someone didn't know I have an alarm they might smash the back window and run when it goes off. I don't really want to buy a goofy alarm sticker and put it on my car though or get an LED light, so how can I warn people that I have an alarm?

Razorblades

A friend of mine was pissed off because his deck kept getting stolen so he put hella razorblades and shit under the deck where you would have to put your arm in. Sure enough about two weeks later, he is walking out to his car to go somewhere and he sees blood all over his driveway. He looks inside the car and there was shit everywhere but the deck wasnt stolen. He spend 2 hours cleaning but when you think about it 2 hrs/ vs $200 is the way to go.

Also about the LED thing. I have an aiwa x-217 that when you take the faceplate off it has a blinking LED. It is completely fake of course, but it seems to add a measure of security

the only problem with decks like the kenwood that flip around to show a blank panel, or like the sonys that are just a black mask, is that if the theif knows anything about car stereos, he'll know that those are good decks. I'd say the number one big thing you can do to prevent your stereo from being stolen is to remove the faceplate.
