AE86 vs. Celicas

Just a thought.
Finally caught on that 4age is a Sprinter Trueno "hachi-roku" engine...strange that todays mods keeps coming back to this. And here I thought "initial D" comics are old. Wonder why toyota have Trueno AND the celica (3rd gen) at the same time? They're both RWD sport compacts. Kinda similar too. If 4age is way more superior than most toyota engine at the time, why bother making them 22R and stuff?

Re: AE86 vs. Celicas

because the 22r was about 4 years prior to the 4age, they ended production of the 22re (in celicas) in 84, production for the 4age started in 85 (84 were 4ac) and went to 7 rib from 3 in 86+

22re was a lot older then the 4age, and celicas never used the 4age beucase they lacked the tourqe toyota wanted for a front wheel drive econemy car

n fyi i just bought a 82 corlla hatchback with a 3t-c motor

82 corrolla hatchback...just one gen away from 4age. You're planning to go retro huh? 2 valve-carburated? reminds me of those 1st gen guys who swapped in sr20det. Is this a hint that you're going to do something like that?

Re: AE86 vs. Celicas

actually in Japan GT celicas I think in the year 84 had 4AGEs. The GT-TS model had the 3TGTE. There are many reasons for having a Celica and Corolla. Mainly because of their racing choices, the celica competed in Group B while the corolla competed in that 1600 cc class can't remember the name. Plus the celicas were more muscle than the 86's and weighed more.

Re: AE86 vs. Celicas

Hah....Initial D. In order to have an AE86 like that you need to do a lot of work. That game over rates the hachi roku. Yea and things in Japan are really different.

Re: AE86 vs. Celicas

^not really, ae86's are one of the most ideal drifting cars

and they cant drift very well withought alot of front wheel negative camber....and yes they take a fair amount of work to the body, suspension and also alot of engine work cuz there slow

Re: AE86 vs. Celicas

I would say that the proportional weight of AE86 itself makes a great drifting car. But maybe if someone mod their FWD celica into RWD, it may have greater potential for the long run? To Cactuar; what is "initial D" all about? bc I keep seeing that over'n'over, yet never have the will to pick it up. Is it really over-rating the AE86? I saw a cover where its racing a GTR or RX-7 or something.

Re: AE86 vs. Celicas

they did stick a 250hp 11K formula atlantic motor in it in the series. And when the car is modded the fuck out of it... eh I'll just wait for celica ST since he's the touge guy here.

Initial D is a anime, video game, etc. about drifting. The main character drives an ae86 so of course its going to be a little one sided, but overall the series is really informative and the video game is addicting as well.
