Remote Entry Receiver / Transmitter

My '98 GP GT has keyless entry but it essetially doesn't work. I have to be within a foot of the car and press the button several times from different directions and elevations b4 I get lucky and the doors unlock. Anymore, I don't even bother with it but with winter approaching and frozen key holes, I'd like to get this problem taken care of. My key remote's battery is fine. Any suggestions? I'm thinking the dealer once told me that I can replace the receiver but I'm thinking it's like $300-$400 - I'd rather spend that kind of money on a performance upgrade. Is anybody aware of any less expensive options? Thanks.

Re: Remote Entry Receiver / Transmitter

Try re-syncronizing your transmitter by holding the lock and unlock buttons for 7-10 seconds (until you hear the locks cycle). Are you assuming your battery is good, or did you just replace it? If you just replaced it, you need to do the re-sync proceedure after replacing the battery.
