91 escort problem.
i ran into a problem. Its my friends car which is like the title says (ford escort lx 5spd 91 w/ a 1.9L engine).
Im fixing it because it wouldn't go in gear all the time when you drive it. i bled the slave cylinder and it ran good for a day but then after it still wont go in gear. I bought a slave cylinder and installed it but have another problem. The metal line that attaches to the slave to the rubber hose is bad. The rubber hose is the bad one. no one in town carries it. They say its discontinued and i dont want to go junkyard searching. My other question is, Could i just use a long metal line to the slave to the master cylinder? Would that work? Any other suggestions would be nice to. Thanks |

An all metal line won't work. The clutch master cylinder is mounted solidly on the firewall and the slave is on the engine which vibrates and moves with torque when you accelerate. A good parts place, machine shop or industrial supply company can make you a new hose.

Re: 91 escort problem.
I used to work in a Napa store for 15 years. My advise is if you can find a "old school" parts store and take your slave and old hose with you they should be able to fix you up with a brake hose and steel line that will take care of it all.
