I agree, sliding the bed back, is alot easier than rolling around on your back, if you dont have access to a lift. Heres another trick that works very well, that i use whenever possible. Cut a trapdoor in the bed over the pickup tube assbly. Use a jigsaw with a blade just long enough to go through. I usually cut them about 1 foot square, with rounded corners. Deburr the edges, so you done rip a hand open. Now you have plenty of room to get at everything. You can fabricate the cover out of plate, or attach strips under the edges of the hole to provide a lip for the cover to set on, and use the piece you cut out. You can go to a junkyard, and get them to cut you a piece from a wrecked truck, about 1 inch bigger than the hole. Prime , paint and attach with ss screws. You can make it neat enough to be almost unnoticeable. Next time you have fuel pump trouble, and you probably will, you can have it out in about 5 minutes! This works great on cars also. You wouldnt want to do it to a show truck, but again, you can make it as neat as you want. happy motoring
