Very Custom 1/12 '69 Camaro...need help

I am working on a 1/12 Revell 1969 Camaro and have found the perfect wheels for the car. I plan to paint a metallic black w/ very light gunmetal z/28 stripes. The wheels are for R/C but they are 52mm (2 1/16" in diameter x 24mm (15/16") wide, perfect for 19" scale wheels for the car. But now the issue: I need tires! I've spent hours on hobby sites looking for tires that have an outside diameter of 55-60mm and inside diameter of roughly 50mm (2"). Anyone put R/C wheels on a big-scale kit and needed tires? Suggestions please! Thank you. HPI Type R5 Gunmetal Chrome Wheels

The logical solution would be get some R/C tires, could you modify the wheel wells to accept a 66mm tire?

Those tires are what I'm looking for, but ouch ~$25! Any ideas how to make them, GTmike?

Building them will cost a lot more than $25. Design the tread on the computer. To do this you need to know the circumference of the tire. Then you need to know how deep the tread will be. Then divide the tread up into 10ths. From there you will build that section out of styrene. Then you build up the sidewalls. Which can be done on a lathe, or by creating discs out of styrene sheet and sanding to shape. Then make a mold, and resin cast the side walls. Then make a mold of the tread, and resin cast 10 copies. Glue them together, then make a mold and cast a rubber verion. Wrap it around the sidewalls, then make a mold and resin cast it. Finish detailing it, make a mold, and cast it in rubber.

Very tedious and difficult to explain, as well as expensive. I will be demonstrating this with my 1/12 scratch build street rod, then probably make a step by step how to.

I'd just bite the bullet and get the RC tires

mike, when can we expect to see some updates on the hot rod? or even the next in the line of how to scratchbuild series?? ...I havn't been in the R/C scene in some time. Im sure they have a tire or two with a low enough profile and a realistic looking tread.

I've been extremely busy. I've been working on college apps, and getting ready for our show November 12. Hopefully I might be able to make some time this weekend and write the next scratch build article. Tomorrow, I will be spending ALL DAY building so we could expect some new progress. Thanks for the interest.

I've got a few tires for my 1/10 that are pretty realistic. I like them.

I purchased these: Drift Specialties tires. They are hard ABS plastic but the sidewalls look good and I can sand and prime the tread. The HPI r/c wheels are so big, the tires will be barely visible anyways. I will try to post a picture of the wheels and body later.
