Q45 Motor

So why couln't you put a Q45 motor in a 240sx. They are about 300 hp.
You could buy them all day long for about a grand!

Re: Q45 Motor

You can... and people have...

Same stuff needed as doing the VQ, VG, RB, LS1, and anyother motor that needs management, a driveshaft, and engine mounts.

The sucky part about it is that it only makes 240whp and only came in automatic.

it probably makes around 300hp but whp its only 240 or so...must add 15-20% decrease for drivetrain loss

So your thinking SR20? I have a 95 240sx. Money isn't the problem.
I want like 450-500hp. I figured the v8 would have a ton of torque and also be a bit differant. Could I get that hp from an SR20?

Re: Q45 Motor

yes...spend about 5 grand into your SR and you can have a decently realiable 400-500hp SR... could be done with less than 5000, im just giving and estimate to make it decently safe at 500whp

Re: Q45 Motor

BTW...for 5k you can completely build a motor inside and out with pretty much whatever turbo combo you want...

Are there any mods for the Q45 V8? Good motor builders?

Re: Q45 Motor

You can't fit a VK series for the same reason you can't fit a VH45 in the car.

The only successful swaps to date have been VH41's

The engine is very nice, and it's all aluminum. The Z32 transmission will bolt on with an adaptor, etc.

The VH41DE is the middle version. The 1st gen Q45 had the 4.5L VH45DE. The 2nd gen had the 4.1L VH41DE, but kept the Q45 name. Hmm. The current 3rd gen Q45 uses the new 4.5L VK45DE. The Titan, Armada and QX56 use the bigger 5.6L VK56DE.

I don't really think there are any mods out there for these V8s, aside from the supercharger available for the VK45(might fit the 5.6L). But that'll cost you ten grand.

Re: Q45 Motor

So why will a VH45DE not fit? It fit in my S14, and S13.

Re: Q45 Motor

Super Street fetured a 350z with that engine twin turbocharged mated with a supra tranny iirc.
driftjunke are you a member of SEDA by any chance? I saw a wrecked S14 at one of the auctions I went to, the car had a big EE windshield banner, it looked stock though. Btw you have a great shop.
