Amp Meter/Battery Problem

Heres the deal, when you try to crank if from a jump start, it will not idle unless you feather your foot off the gas ever so slow to allow to idle by itself. Once you get to idle, and go down the road, the check gauge light comes on b/c the Batter gauge will pegg over in the danger area of the "19". Once you cut the car off, it will not re-start without a jump. I just replaced the alternater, and didnt not resolve problem. I had the battery tested, and seems to be in good shape. Any ideas at all? Thanks to all!!!

Did you ever figure out this problem? My Son's 96 JGC is having similar problems. He is currently checking wiring harnesses for obvious signs of damage as well as checking/cleaning connectors. The parking lights will sometimes not go off as well. I suspect that the problem lies buried in an electrical short, but finding it will be a bear!!

Re: Amp Meter/Battery Problem

hmm, having the alt gauge pegging over the limit seems to point towards a defective alternator... mebbe a bad rectifier bridge/diodes w/in the alternator itself. it'll also leave your battery dead if left in this condition.

do you have an autozone or advance auto parts store? they will do a free charging system/battery/starting system test right on the parking lot
