97 smelling gas after driving found problem
Hello
I just wanted to post about a gas leak that I found tonight. For the past couple days I've been smelling gas when I get out of my car. I fianlly took the time to put the car on the ramps and take a look. The fuel tube from the tank to the fuel filter was leaking! I moved it to one side a bit and gas just ran out. I'm not inpressed with GM's plastic fuel line connections! Yes they're quick to put together and yes it did last 8 years. I went and got 2' of 3/16 ID fuel hose, clamps and put the hose in place of the plastic tube. Works great. No more fuel smell! While I was under there and had one end of the fuel filter off so I replace the filter. It looked orginal. (106,000 miles) Just thought I'd share this. Re: 97 smelling gas after driving found problem
Thanks for sharing. This advice should help someone with the same problem.
I also, have never been a fan of the quick connect plastic fittings or plastic anything for that matter. I know it is cheaper and lighter than metal, however not as durable. I was perfectly happy with the way they built cars back in the "good ole days", before plastic became a commodity.

Re: 97 smelling gas after driving found problem
My buddy is having a leaking fuel line in the engine compartment right where the lines connect to the fuel rail. Looks like the plastic fittings. Can I get one of these fittings at the local auto parts store?
