Cruise Quit

I have a 91 Burb and the cruise up and quit working.
Can someone point me in some directions to find the problem.
All fuses are good and besides that I have no clue where to start.

Hello wolfden6. Did you ever resolve this issue? I have a similiar issue with my 1989 Suburban... blinkers/wipers work, just no cruise.

I have an 86 that exhibited the same issue where the blinkers/wipers worked but the cruise did not. I was able to see the broken wires where they exit the stalk and go into the steering column (not the best design)Replaced the signal stalk/wiring with one I got from LMC truck and it has worked fine since.

I'll give you guys a hint. My '90's cruise stopped working. A pretty good locksmith, steering column, wiper, etc, specialist tested it and proclaimed it needed a new cruise unit.

A couple of days later I noticed that the firewall end of the wire rod attached to the TBI throttle was lying on the intake manifold. The little silver metal loop on the diaphragm (big black balloon on the firewall) had a gap worn in the front, allowing the wire to slip out!

I put the wire loop end back in place and bent the two ends of the worn diaphragm loop closer together. This worked for about a year, until the broken loop spread again.

Chevy only sells the whole firewall assembly for about $400 - no way I was going for that!

Didn't want to solder so close to the soft rubber balloon, so I tried JB Welding a bent HD paper clip over the damaged loop; worked for about 5,000 miles before pulling off.

Final solution was to go to the junkyard and find a Chevy with a loop of the same size and shape. Bought the whole balloon for $7 and took it home.

I cut the metal loop and bracket off the balloon and started clipping and filing, whittling it down. I wanted to slip a tall J-shaped section behind my existing loop, but it wouldn't go.

Ended up with just the horizontal loop section with just bit of upward curve at the rear. JB Welded THIS piece on the botttom of the damaged loop and it's worked perfectly for 25,000 miles!

Do check the cruise throttle linkage before spending vig bucks on and electronic part that may not make any difference. Good luck!
