When do you have to replace the transmission fluid?

I just bought my 96 with 92000 on it and the transmission fluid life is at 100%. I'm wondering if the fluid was just changed or if someone just reset it to make it look good when selling it.

My dad has an 02 deville with 30000? miles on it and the transmission fluid life is at 100% too.

Does it ever wear out? Why do they even have the fluid life display?

Re: When do you have to replace the transmission fluid?

Ignore those dumbass timer warnings. The trans will show 100% forever. Change fluid and filter. Clean everything well before reassembly. Soak the bolts in gas if you have to. If your filter kit comes with a cork/rubber gasket(Fram)use Gasgacinch brand sealer lightly coating both sides and let set for 20 min. before assembly. Just snug all the bolts, don't tighten to the point that you start to push out or even distort the gasket. Let it bond overnight before adding the fluid. Do not overfill. Pour in 7 quarts and drive it up to temp and check the level hot, idling and in park. Do not be fooled by checking it cold and not seeing anything on the dipstick, because you probably won't.

i would be very careful about changing your tranny fluid with 92,000 miles on your aurora..if the the fluid has been regularly changed go ahead and replace the fluid and filter..if it has never been changed,LEAVE IT ALONE...if you change the fluid when the vehicle has close to 100,000 miles, often you will develop a slipping tranny.if it doesn't smell burnt and has NEVER been changed leave it alone..

Yeah....On second thought, go ahead and just leave it alone.
