cam suggestions?

i have a 98 formula w/ the LS1. im going to be looking for a bigger cam soon. altogether w/ the mods i have now i have about 330rwhp.
it has:
-ls6 cam(204/218 555/551 117.5centerline)
(i think the LS1's have 1.7" rockers but im not sure and would i have to upgrade?)
-crankshaft is relatively new nodular cast iron w/ less than 1500 miles on it
-comp cams chrome moly pushrods
-LS6 oil pump poted-polished and shimmed
-LS1 cylinder heads w/ less than 1500 miles on them
-LS6 clutch upgrade
-4:10's in the rear (they are AWESOME!!!)

im looking at ls6 intake manifold, bigger TB, (have pacesetter LT's catted y-pipe and magnaflow catback in basement waiting for nice day ), and a 160* or 180* thermostat depending on which is better.

after the mods i want 400-425 rwhp
any guidance would be extremely appreciated.
I have a general idea on things, just would like experts (or close to) opinions.

thanks
andrew

Re: cam suggestions?

Auto and 3.73's make a good combo and 6 speed and 4.10's seem to go well together.

Re: cam suggestions?

Cam only cars are seeing just over 400 RWHP.
You have LS1 heads....I am assuming the stock ones? The 1998's were a little harder to get to that 400 RWHP mark with the stock heads on it.

Cam...depends on a LOT of things. Daily driver? How do you want it to idle? Mileage a worry? Are you looking for the best cam for your gears?
You have many options.
Thunder Racing, Texas Speed, or Futral.

Re: cam suggestions?

yea stock heads. less than 1500 miles.
yes daily driver, as long as the car runs and doesn't stall i dont care about idle, as long as i stay above 10-12 mpg , and i was planning to keep my gears.

i dont need exact info i was just looking to see if i should go to 600 lift or roundabout duration lengths. right now its 204/218 555/551.
i also have other mods to help in the race to 400

Re: cam suggestions?

400 RWHP shouldn't be a problem.

If you want the biggest cam to fit under stock heads....TRex from Thunder Racing or Magic Stick from Texas Speed.
Both with fit as long as you run with stock rocker arms (1.7) and the heads are not milled. Stock thickness head gaskets (.056 compressed) as well.
It will have a damn good lope, and should work great with your gears.

Re: cam suggestions?

petaining to heads and rocker arms, i would like to keep them stock if i can. If i decide years down the line that i want more power ill upgrade them.

Re: cam suggestions?

I am keeping the stock rockers arms for my 402ci build. And I am upgrading everything.
The stockers are fine as long as you aren't spinning it over 6700 RPM's or so. I figure to spin to about 6600.
