'91 Shifter Problem

I have a '91 4 speed manual. Never had any problems with the tranny or the shifter until today. I went to put it in reverse and felt a slight pop and the entire stick rotates inside the housing. I can still shift, it has no problem going in and out of gear, but the stick freely swivels.

Am I looking at a bushing problem or is the entire linkage shot? Anybody have any ideas and maybe an estimate on cost.
