Unhappy Brake light trouble on 99 century

My brake light comes on after starting the engine. I replaced the pads, master cylinder, and wheel bearing but the light is still on. :-(
I dont know where to go from here. The weird part is that when I engage the parking brake, the low traction (or traction off, dont really remember what the light actually says) comes on.

Any help will be much apreciated.

Thanks in advance.

have you tried bleeding the brakes? if there is air in the line the brake light will stay on.

How do the brakes feel when driving it? The TRAC light coming on when you apply the parking brake is puzzling. Also the BRAKE light indicates the parking brake is engaged in addition to a possible hydraulic system malfunction.

You can go with the bleeding suggestion. I'll review the GM service manual and see what's up with the idiot lights. At any time do you get the ABS light? When the master cylinder was replaced did you install a new level switch. If it's stuck or the brake fluid level is low it will trigger a BRAKE light. Sounds like there might be an electrical problem with the switches and warning lights.

Hello,

I again thank you for your help. My brother replaced the master cylinder when I was visiting home in Iowa, I am not sure if he installed a new level switch but I can call and ask.

Thanks again

Just a suggestion but you could also check and make sure the electrical plug to the level sensor is clean and tight. It's located on one side of the master cylinder reservoir.

One way to test it is to simply disconnect it. If the BRAKE light goes out then thats your problem. When the level is low the sensor passes a ground to the BRAKE light. When the level is OK the sensor provides no ground to the light and it should therefore be off.

Also test your emergency brake with ignition in run but not start. When depressed you should get a BRAKE light. Released it should be extinguished.

Also, I never get the ABS light. The only weird light is the "Traction Off" when I engage the parking brake. I know it sounds weird but thats what happens.

If you're not getting the ABS or ANTI-LOCK indicator that is a good sign. The overall integrity of your brakes is probably OK. It's starting to sound more like an electrical problem with the idiot lights in the instrument cluster, especially with the TRAC OFF light coming on when you depress the parking brake. I'll check the wiring diagrams in the service manual and let you know what I find common.
