oh shit

ok so the other day me and my idiot buddy were 4 wheelin and i broke the cv joint on the drivers side so i bought a new half axle assembly to replace it well i got the old one out no problem but i cant get the new one in... The old one came out in 2 pieces and the new one has to go in in 1 piece and i cant get the steering knuckle or the entire hub assembly off so i can slide the new part straight in and bolt it to the flange n e suggestions greatly appreciated!!

Re: oh shit

My plans are to crawl under mine tomorrow some time, so I'll see if I can figure something out.

No promises though

Re: oh shit

Ok, I replaced the left side CV boots on my truck recently (got it done 20-30 min before I had to be at the school go get my diploma....went with greasy hands....hehe)

Although my vocabulary lack the technical words for the pieces, I can try to help.

Getting the axle off invloves taking EVERYTHING apart. Wheel, caliper, rotor, spindle, etc.

You will need a gear puller to get the spindle off of the splined axle, (I think its the spindle...idk)
After that is off, you need to unbolt the three castle nuts that hold the A arms to the wheel assembly. There are cotter pins in each nut, if you can't get them out, just pound them flat, and break them off when you hit it off with the impact.
After you get all this apart, It will probably not come apart.
Get a big hammer, and beat it till it comes loose, and the A arms sepaerate from the wheel assembly.

I think that is it, bolt the new axle up. Check the ball joints, if they need replacing, better do it now while its all apart. The factory ones are rivited in, drill out the rivits and bolt the new ones in.

Putting it all back together, getting the A arms to compress back will require an extra floor jack to get them to go back together.

I hope this helps in some small means...It's late, and since I don't remember it exactly and I don't know the correct vocubalry for this, It's kinda vague.

Good luck
