question about instrument cluster swaps
I saw some Denali clusters that fit the 2001 Silverados. If I use one of these, do I have to have my mileage programmed in? Or is all the mileage info stored elsewhere? Is it truly a plug and play item? Is there anything I should be cautious about when selecting one? Also, what is the color of the Denali cluster at night? I thought I saw a pic of one and it was blue looking.
Thanks!!! |

Re: question about instrument cluster swaps
As for the lights, I'm not sure. I do know that you must have the mileage programmed in your new cluster, or either have a sticker showing that the odo is not accurate. Other than that, its plug and play and I've heard it takes little more than 15 minutes to complete.

you have to pay attention where you by the cluster. i've looked into a few places that sell them and some will program your milage into them before they are shipped and some just send a sticker for inside the driver door say that the milage was zeroized at x miles......search this forum and you'll find the retailer who will program it for you. If I remember right it was about $399 for the escalade cluster and you had to mail or fax them paperwork proving your milage prior to them sending it programmed out to you but don't quote me on it. I always wondered what happens to the miles you put on it while you're waiting for the new cluster to arrive.....for most people those miles would be negliable but still it would be unrecorded miles.... With I had the cash for them though, they look SWEEEEEET!!!

Re: question about instrument cluster swaps
I wouldn't mind having the Denali cluster that registers 120 and has the trans temp gauge

Re: question about instrument cluster swaps
I dont have a warranty. I think the Denali clusters fit more with the look of the truck. They look almost exactly like the silverado cluster except have the trans temp and a 120MPH speedo. The Escelade one look out of place IMHO to "techy" for the conservative interior of the silverados. I wonder how they verify the mileage you tell them??
I saw brand new OEM GM Denali clusters for about $225-$250 programmed and shipped.

That's cool. I just wanted to put that info out there for anyone who was considering doing this on a vehicle still under warranty. Better than finding out the hard way!
