do I have an orifice ??!!

hey yall,

does anyone know where my AC system orifice tube is located? I got a 97 Jimmy.

Also, has anybody ever RENTED an AC system vacuum pump to evacuate the air out of their AC system from Autozone?

"orifice" and "vacuum pump" in the same post ... priceless !!!

Re: do I have an orifice ??!!

This sucks, On my 89 , the orifce valve is in the tube coming out of the firewall to the dryer in a section that is verticle and flared a little larger before the dryer . I borrowed a friends Vac pump and bought a set of gauges. Rob

The orifice tube on yours is located on the lower tube running from the dryer to the condensor on the firewall....

Re: do I have an orifice ??!!

Just thought I would mention that on my 1995 Blazer ( 4.3L ), the orifice tube is located beneath the accumulator in the line coming from the condenser at the input of the Evaporator. Have a new O ring ready.
Had to run to the store to get one. Replaced the compressor, accumulator and tube. Used PAG 150 oil. Now just need to borrow a suction pump.

Re: do I have an orifice ??!!

I won't give you a hard time because this thread is nearly a year old ... plus you're a newbie ...

anyhow, it sounds like you're replacing everything in your AC system. Let me know how it goes ... post back ... I'm still looking into replacing all components on my 97 Jimmy.

I just suffered through a hot summer with no AC. I told myself ... "one more year before I fix it ..." I'm gonna fix it somehow, some-way by next summer. I'm still debating on whether to take it to a dealership or to try to replace all parts and o-rings myself, and then have a shop evacuate and refill ...

suggestions?
experiences plus or minus ?????

Re: do I have an orifice ??!!

Sorry drDD, Should I have started a new thread? I'll have to read up on the posting rules. Anyway I had good success after I replaced the parts I mentioned. A friend at work had a vacuum pump and gauges.
The compressor I put in was a remanufactured one but the shop wanted over $300 just to change the clutch plate. My parts cost around $275 plus refrigerant. I used to do aftermarket AC installs (about 25 years ago) so I was
at least familiar with the evacuation and charging procedure.
Good luck with your vehicle.
