Chattering starter...

Well, since the last 3 days have dropped to about 40ish in the morning, my starter is chattering louder and longer then usual. Im thinking about replacing it soon but if I wait, can any damage be caused because of waiting? I really dont want to spend 150+ on a starter(autozone.com) and Id rather wait until I get too annoyed at the sound to change it lol.

Everyone told me that the chattering is the starter not disengaging from the flywheel immediatly. Which, if you wait, you could end up having to replace your flywheel also. Lots of broken teeth I guess. lol I haven't gotten around to replacing mine either. Somebody said that you can take out the original one and just clean it up inside and put it back in and its like new.

I have the same problem. Went to my local Mitsu and told them to order it... it's been over a month now and still no starter lol. God I hate that dealership.

I ended buying a rebuilt one from advanced auto. has a limited life time warrenty which means if it breaks or starts to do this crap again, I take it back and get another one for free.

140$ - 30$ if i bring em my starter
