Re: Replace Turbocharger in 95 talon
I'd hit eBay and local junk yards for another t25. If you want more power, it all depends depending on how much power you want. You will need supporting mods before a bigger turbo.

honestly it depending on what you want your car to do.... if you want it to look stock but more power go w/ a T-28 forced perfomance sells one of them most powerfull t28's for about $800 flows about 550cfm www.forcedperformance.net if you would like to go w/ somthing a little more powerfull go w/ a evo III big 16g stock bolt up for 1g's so you would need a j pipe but its probably the most popular upgrade... you can bolt these up with as little mods such as a mbc and a boost gauge you can run them at 15 psi w/ no problems...if you want to crank it up of course you will need fuel upgrades....you can find the 16g's about any where slowboy is where i would start if you went that route... As for exhuast ur 2 manifold will be fine...id go probably w/ apexi's n1 exhuast its about 700 but its nice and easy to install and sounds good.. or you can go to ur local advance or auto zone and buy mandral bends and build your own also www.roadraceengineering.com sells pieces also hope it helps Jesse |

Re: Replace Turbocharger in 95 talon
It all depends on what you are looking to do with the car. When you say you want to replace the turbo and exhaust, do you mean that you want to upgrade or strictly go stock for stock? You can definitely go both routes for less than $2k let alone $10k.
Tell us what your goals are for your car and I'm sure at least 58 people will be able to help get you there. Without knowing what you want from your car, we're all just going to suggest the route we took with ours. Also, do you do work on your car yourself or will you be taking it to a mechanic to get the work done? That's a big factor in how pricy your goals will be.

Personally, I would steer away from Ebay when it comes to turbos. Too many bad stories about them not lasting, horrible quality, etc.
There are a ton of places that specialize in DSM parts and whatnot. Check the FAQ, that will give you a guide as to what your lookin at for prices and where to buy.

When I said 10k that was just something to get the ball rolling. My Talons motor was rebuilt in 2001. The motor was rebuilt .030, So I've already put some money into it. To make along story short turbo went out in July, so it's just been sitting around. It's time to get the missile running again!!! I was told before coming into this forum that the Garrett T28 would work well?? T25 or T28 is what Iam looking at now just because thats all I know about?? T25 is what is in it now. I LOVE to drive CARS, but can't FIX THEM. My Dad does the work and I help. We do what work we can ourselves. Would like to have the car running before Thanksgiving?? Thanks I_eclipse_I, DragonofBC, Talont28 and Thor06. I hope this gives everyone alittle bit more info. I will have pictures in hte near future. Hope to hear from everyone. I am a Heating and Air Conditioning Installer, so I don't get to my computer until after 4:30 central time |

The small or regular T-28 shares the same housing as the stock T-25, with a slightly larger compressor wheel. The small housing is a limiting factor to the turbos power. You want to be able to push more air at less boost, not the other way round. I had the small T-28 for a while, it's nothing special. I highly recommend going with an EvoIII16G with a full install kit. It's potential, performance and limitations have been vastly documented in the DSM community on many forums. Lets just say that you wont be shooting in the dark with this one. Comes with all the power you want, not a bit more than what you dont need. As mentioned in another post above, buy a turbo and kit from recognized vendors like SBR, RRE, etc. |

Well, there are various kinds of T-28s...the one that's a direct bolt and shares the factory housing is the "small" T-28. The Big or KILLER T-28s have a larger housing and require an adapter kit. Which is a little more expensive than the evoIII with install kit. I think.. |

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Replace Turbocharger in 95 talon
I researched for a while before deciding to go with an Evo16g. I orginally wanted to go 14B but a few crappy circumstances later, I had a 16g in my hands.
All said and done I did the Evo16g (ported and 34mm flapper mod) for about $850 including the price of having all the parts I ordered from SBR overnighted. I pieced together my own install kit (used j-pipe, SBR SS oil line, filing the T-25 oil return line, hacking my LICP to fit using an 11" piece of exhaust pipe to bridge the gap, all new gaskets, reused the water pipes, and a new lower radiator hose). The important thing is to know what you want, and know what it takes to get there. Neither the T28 nor the Evo16g is going to be any better than the T25 unless you get the supporting mods. With a stock exhaust and stock rewired fuel pump, I can't go higher than about 12psi before I start to see dips in timing (via pocketlogger). My car feels only slightly faster than before. That is until I get the fuel pump sitting on my desk installed .If you aren't willing to make the commitment to getting all of the supporting mods, the absolute cheapest turbo route would be to find a used T-25 in good shape. People have run mid to high 13s on a maxed out T-25. The next cheapest would be to get a used 14B in decent shape (about $150-$200). You'd have to piece together the same install kit as you would for the Evo16g but that turbo can take you into the 12s with the right mods.

Thanks onces again everyone!! I am going to go with the EVO3 big 16g. Why? Well after reading all the posts and a few magazines it just seems better. However, I still like the big t28? Because of the install. Now that I have the turbo on the right path. I still need help with the exhaust. I don't want my car to sound like a motorcycle.. I am 26 years old. I am not a high school kid anymore! HAHAHA. Also remember once the MISSILE gets going again I will be driving it everyday. Alot of the pic I see hear the cars look GREAT!! I live in Iowa so, when Winter and Spring come around the roads are a mess.. I can tell that everybody takes alot of PRIDE in making your cars look great. Thats why all of your replys mean alot. Thanks again Cory C. |
