307 buildup?

I am wondering if anybody has ever built the stock 307 in a Chevelle.I know from the experience I had as a mechanic, I never saw one, but i love the lowend snap it has.Im not a 140mph guy, but I would love a 0-70 neck snapper.If I remember correctley, a longer stroke will give the better torque. My Chevelle has the 307(I added dual exhaust and an alum. intake plus a 600 holley) and a powerglide. I know I should go with more cubes, but it would be something different. Glad to be a new member, sorry for the long-windedness!

Few people built the 307 simply because the 327 and 350 were better at producing power and are so widely available.
The 307's limitations is more in the heads than in the lack of displacement.
The relatively small bore makes for smaller valves than a 327 and 350. Smaller valves complement low revs, but do not breathe well at high revs, so the power building potential of this engine is limited.

Also, you cannot bolt on a set of bigger heads because the smaller valves will be shrouded by the smaller bore (resulting in less power than stock), or at worst, smack the cylinder walls.

The mods you have done so far seem great; small-diameter log tube headers will help too.
Don't bother with a camshaft. If you do, keep it mild. Anything more than a very mild cam will only kill low end power and, since the engine will not breathe at high revs, you will lose overall performance.
Still, you can build a nice, snappy little tire smoker with a 307.

World Products makes great heads for a 307. It is the same bore as a 265,283, & 305. Cam selection should be a proven 327 cam because both engines have the same crank (stroke). I suggest a copy of 327/350 hyd you can buy this cam no-name from anyone cheap. Call PAW or power house.

I hate to be picky, but the 307 has a 3.875 inch bore; the 305 has a 3.736 inch bore.
