I am getting ready to change the oil in my 99 silverado with the 4.8 motor. I called the local auto parts store and they said it holds 6 quarts of oil. Is this true? I don't see how this could be if a ls1 olnly holds 5.5 quarts.

Re: 4.8 oil
I think the oil pan is different in the trucks/suvs. My 2000 Yukon with the 5.3 takes 6 quarts.

Put 5 in it, start the motor, shut it off after a minute, check the stick, and see where it is. If you need more, add it, if not, you're done. It's not the Manhattan Project.
