Sub(s) and Amp for $300?

Hi I'm new to the car audio thing right now but Ive always wanted a great sounding reasonably loud system, and for the past week or so Ive been reading posts and reviews and stuff on amps, subs, speakers, and everything. Ive learned a lot and Ive already picked out some speakers and a deck (i mean the cd player/radio with buttons, cant remember if that's what they're called) which was pretty easy, but picking out a amp and subs is a lot harder than i thought it would be. Especially the wats, ohms, and channels. that's the main thing i don't understand. I know you need a 2 channel amp for 1 sub or a 4 channel for 2 subs but that's about as much as i know. And the whole thing on wats and ohms confuses the hell out of me.

So right now all i need is a sub or 2 (i don't really care how mane subs, just whatever is cheapest) and an amp. i have no idea what model of amp or subs i should get that go together well but after reading a lot of reviews and stuff i think I'm going to go with JL Audio and/or RE Audio for my amp and subs just because they're considered to be pretty good by most people it seems, even though they seem a little more expensive. Although if you recommend something else im definitely open for suggestions.

So I was hoping you guys could tell me the best setup i could get for $300 from those brands. I already have some good wire, and a friend of mine has a few enclosures that i can get for like $10 each or he can make me some, so right now i think i only need an amp and sub.

You input would be much appreciated,
Thanks

BTW, on friday i get paid and after bills i should have $425~ to spend on the system alltogether, so i can spend a little more if i need to but id like to keep it around $300 unless spending more would make a big difference.

you don't *need* to bridge channels to drive a sub. (what ur talking about). you could just buy an amp that gives enough power through each channel to match your subs. i.e. a 200watt rms X 2channel amp will drive 2 subs with 200watts. What you're talking about is if you buy say a 4channel amp with 100watts X4ch and you"bridge" two channels to draw more power from the amp, maybe rated 200watts.

all tht and more is explained in the site mannyb gave u. its an overwhelming amount of info, but if ur serious about it, it'll steer u in the right direction, so you know what to look for in a sub or amp or w/e, and ur not just going off recomendations. also, do a search, theres already a lot of threads on recomendations, and the opening thread to this forum also has a list of various companies that are average, good, etc. https://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=382679
